after care

Gold Vermeil is high-quality form of gold plating in which a thick layer of gold that is more than 2.5 microns of between 14 to 24 carat gold that is coated upon sterling silver 925. Gold vermeil is a smart way to have quality jewellery at a reasonable price, especially for a statement pieces!

To keep your Gold Vermeil or sterling silver heirlooms as shiny as possible, we advise you avoid contact with cosmetics as they can remove the gold-plating. Especially when wet.

We recommend storing it in an air-tight bag in the original box when not in use to minimise tarnish.

Wherever possible, your jewellery should always be removed before bathing, exercising or swimming. Sweat & excess moisture can cause metals to oxidise (tarnish).

Tarnishing or oxidation can also occur with both sterling silver and gold vermeil jewellery is exposed to moisture. It can be easily removed with a soft cloth. Gently wipe with a clean cloth & store in an air-tight bag in the original box when not in use to minimise exposure to moisture.

1. When cleaning your jewellery, we recommend mixing a few drops of mild washing-up liquid with lukewarm water & soaking for a few minutes.

2. When complete, rinse the jewellery under a tap with a soft bristle toothbrush to brush away any dirt between stones or grooves in the piece.

3. After cleaning, gently pat your jewellery completely dry with a soft, 100% cotton cloth. As an extra measure, you can also blow-dry your jewellery with a low or no heat setting.

4. Avoid using paper as this can scratch the metal. It usually isn’t necessary to do this more than twice per year.

Please note that all plating will naturally fade with wear.

Gold vermeil is a smart way to have quality jewellery at a reasonable price. Especially for a statement pieces but any plating no matter how good, will eventually wear off when worn regularly.
